Tianjin Jin Tower: The 336m Landmark by the Hai River and Jinwan Plaza
The Tianjin Jin Tower, formally the Tianjin International Financial Center (IFC), stands on the Hai River bank in Heping District, facing Tianjin Railway Station across the water. Designed by SOM, it broke ground in 2008 and finished in 2011; at 336.9 metres over 75 floors (with 4 below ground) it is the city’s tallest building and the boldest stroke on the river skyline.

A tower built for finance
The Jin Tower is pitched as an international Grade-A office block, with premium retail in its podium and base — the core of the Tianjin IFC complex. Against the old brick villas of the former concessions nearby, it writes a different city height in steel and glass, yet keeps the Hai River’s “East-meets-West” undertone while pushing Tianjin’s business skyline to a new mark. Its slightly tapered shaft makes it easy to pick out among the riverfront towers.

Jinwan Plaza: the public lounge at its feet
The tower itself is not open to the top, but the Jinwan Plaza at its base is a public urban room anyone can enter. The plaza spreads along the river, its western-style buildings carrying a Republican echo, with restaurants and cafés in a row facing Tianjin Station and the Liberation Bridge. After dusk the lights come on and the station clock tower, bridge traffic and tower shadow all fall into the water — a full corner of the Hai River night.

How to enjoy this stretch
The Jin Tower–Jinwan line is best at dusk. Take a riverside seat on the plaza for the sunset, then walk to the Liberation Bridge and look back to frame the tower with the station. To see the city from above, use a nearby high-rise hotel observation floor or a river cruise rather than the tower itself. This area sits close to the Italian-style quarter and the Jinwan pier, easy to string into a relaxed riverside half-day.

Photos and rest
The plaza is open with low vantage points; a wide lens catches the tower, bridge and station trio. For night shots wait until full dark when the lights settle. Dining around is plentiful, from fast food to proper meals — sit whenever tired. The river wind bites in winter, so bring a windbreaker.
