Tianjin Happy Valley: A Twin Park of Thrills by Dongli Lake
Tianjin Happy Valley lies in the Dongli Lake resort, Dongli District. It is the sixth Happy Valley built by the OCT Group after Shenzhen, Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai, opening on 27 July 2013. Covering about 350,000 square metres with an investment over 3 billion yuan, it is among the largest theme parks in North China and receives more than three million visitors a year.

Six land zones
The land part splits into six themed areas: the Performance Centre, Happy Time, Heart of Ocean, Viking Harbour, Christmas Village and Caribbean Sky. From gentle family rides to intense machines, there is something for every appetite — families with kids can drift through the Performance Centre and Christmas Village, while thrill-seekers head to Viking Harbour and Caribbean Sky. Added in 2014, the Caribbean Sky zone hides “Canyon Flying Dragon”, North China’s first wooden roller coaster; the shake and speed of a timber track are unlike any steel coaster.

The water park, summer only
Connected to the land side is a separate water park, open in summer with several large water rides. A second phase in 2016 added the “Hurricane Mega Horn” and more, making it a favourite spot to beat the heat near Tianjin. The water park runs only in summer, so plan a water day then.

Shows by day, parade by night
Happy Valley is not just about rides. Dozens of shows run daily, led by the large multimedia stage play “Heroes of Tianjin”, plus a float parade and street interaction. Families can slot a show into the route and duck the noon sun with a performance — an easier pace.

Eating and resting
Dining clusters inside the park, from fast food to local Tianjin snacks; the Christmas Village shops and decor are the most festive and photogenic. When tired, there are rest areas and charging corners. Travel light, wear good walking shoes, and bring sun protection and water in summer.
