Restaurant Types

Sit-down restaurants: Order from a menu, table service, ¥50–200 per person. Fast food chains: McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut have English menus and touchscreen kiosks. Street food lanes: Pay per stall, cash or QR code, ¥20–50 per person.

How to Order

Scan the QR code on the table to view the menu; some restaurants allow ordering online. When there’s no picture menu, use Baidu Translate’s photo feature to identify dishes. Pointing at a neighboring table’s food and saying “Wǒ yào zhège” (I want that) never fails.

Dietary Restrictions & Allergies

Chinese cooking widely uses peanut oil, sesame, soy, and gluten. For allergies, prepare a Chinese allergy card with a translation app and carry it with you. Halal restaurants (清真 sign) contain no pork or alcohol — common in Northwest China and Muslim communities.
