China’s HSR network exceeds 45,000 km — over 70% of the world’s total. The “Four Vertical and Four Horizontal” backbone connects all major cities. Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Guangzhou, and Shanghai–Kunming are the three busiest trunk lines.
Booking Tips
Tickets go on sale 30 days in advance on 12306. Popular routes (Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Guangzhou) sell out fast around holidays — buy on the first day of sale. The “waitlist” feature automatically grabs tickets when they become available, with a high success rate.
