Xiuhe Gown
The xiuhe gown is currently the most popular choice for Chinese weddings. Red satin embroidered with gold phoenix, peony, and ruyi patterns. Loose-fitting top with a floor-length hem, paired with a phoenix crown or hairpin flowers. The “tea ceremony” photos in xiuhe gowns are the most-shared wedding images.
Dragon-Phoenix Jacket (Kwa)
Originating from Guangdong, it’s standard for Chaoshan and Hong Kong-style weddings. Ranked in four tiers — Xiao Wufu, Zhong Wufu, Da Wufu, and Kwa Huang — based on embroidery density. The highest tier is so densely embroidered that no base fabric is visible, costing over ¥100,000. Many families opt to rent.
Groom’s Attire
Grooms typically wear red or black long robes with mandarin jackets, with a large red silk flower pinned to the chest. Modern Chinese weddings also accept Zhongshan suits or updated Tang jackets for grooms. Red cloth shoes complete the look.
